Wilmot family collection, 1846-1962.

This collection consists of personal papers and printed material collected by the Wilmot family of Louisiana. Included are correspondence, school and health certificates, concert and theater programs, Mardi Gras ball invitations and other collectibles (primarily regarding twentieth-century activities of Carnival krewes, Comus, Momus, Proteus and Rex), travel brochures, newspaper clippings and segments of newspapers, photographs, printed books, and social stationery. Most of the collection relates to the lives of Dorothy and Maud Wilmot. One of the correspondents is author Frances Parkinson Keyes. Several photographs of the steamboat "Robert A Wilmot" are included. The collection includes a book titled: The History of Holmes is the history of New Orleans, which is a compilation of cartoon strips by John Churchill Chase, originally published as a daily feature in the New Orleans Times-Picayune and States-Item newspapers.

Frances Parkinson Wheeler Keyes (1885-1970), born in Virginia, was married to Henry Wilder Keyes (1863-1938); they had three children. Henry W. Keyes became governor of New Hampshire in 1917 and a United States senator in 1919. The family maintained multiple residences. Frances Parkinson Keyes wrote popular romantic novels emphasizing local color, descriptions of life among the upper classes, and generation-spanning sagas. The Wilmots were a socially prominent family in New Orleans, La. W. G. Wilmot was a coal and towing contractor. His son, R. W. Wilmot, was a vice president of D.H. Holmes Company.
